As we all sat breathless behind our television screens trying to pull some amount of clarity to the presidential candidates positions, there needs to be some way to pull out some reality as to what the candidates are saying. The following is an analysis of four positions of the candidates as pulled down from their websites. Barack Obama and John McCain are both good men and either would likely do well by the country. But their websites offer a stark bit of insight.

Barak Obama:

Health Care: Require companies to cover pre-existing conditions (like Asthma and Diabetes), Lower the cost of drugs and increase the use of generics, A new public health care plan based on the health care now available to members of Congress.

Education: Provide grants for states to move towards voluntary universal free preschool, Reform No Child Left Behind standardized testing procedures, Increase AP level classes by 50% by 2016, Reward teachers who excel in the classroom and offer mentoring opportunity, $4,000 college tax credit in exchange for 100 hours of community service.

Energy: Put one million plug in hybrid cars built in America on the road (150 miles to the gallon), $7,000 tax credit for purchasing an energy efficient vehicle, Weatherize one million homes annually, Work on Clean Coal and the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline.

Taxes: Lower taxes for those making less than $250,000 to 20% than what it was under Regan, For families making over $250,000 the tax rates will go back to what they were in the 1990's. He will cut taxes and still keep the budget down by lowering spending in other areas.
