A Dear John Letter

Hillary. Clinton was asked by a journalist early in her campaign if she thought there was anything she could have done to stop Barack Obama from winning and she said that question haunted her throughout the campaign. It may do you well, Mr. McCain, to ponder the same question in the light of an inevitable Obama presidency. It is simply not possible, under present circumstances, for you to do anything to win this election. Senator Obama clearly has an insurmountable lead in the electoral college and judging from numbers of newly registered voters, will win the presidency come election day. At this point, John, the best thing you can do is to lose honorably and with your dignity.

You are a real American Hero and you made every possible sacrifice that you could possibly make for your country. Do not let your country throw you under the wheels of the bus. Do not let the noise of an election turn you into a maniacal monster. Do not disgrace those years of torture in a vietnamese prison camp by turning your campaign into a sandbox of insanity. Do not listen to every devious word spoken to you by your aides and advisors. Give up and give us back the hero we deserve.

We all want to believe in you and we all want to believe that you represent what is great about this nation, about the call to honor and the call to sacrifice for one's fellow man. It diminishes us all to see you, a real maverick, become a cog in the American political machinery of ad hominem attacks and character assassination. You deserve the reputation you so painfully earned and you shouldn't let your advisors and aides rob you of it. Save yourself from your campaign.
