Doubtless, there are dozens of ways to make a quick, easy, and inexpensive pilgrim hat as a Thanksgiving craft. This particular pilgrim hat requires few resources and very little time, yet it is among the cutest Thanksgiving crafts I have done with kids. Plus, kids love to wear the pilgrim hat they have created.

All you need for this Thanksgiving Pilgrim hat craft is the following:

A paper plate

Black crayon or paint

Hat buckle

Glue

To make a Thanksgiving Pilgrim hat craft:

1. Fold the plate in half. Trace and cut to the pattern shown in the picture. (The cut is primarily the shape of an arc.)

2. Paint or color the remaining plate black.

3. Fold the top of the hat pattern up to form the Pilgrim hat.

4. Write a personalized message on the buckle of the pilgrim hat and glue it in place.

A great Thanksgiving message may begin, "I'm thankful for..." Allow children to fill in the blank.

With very little preparation and expense you will have assisted the children in creating a Thanksgiving craft they will wear with pride.

This craft can also be used in conjunction with a Thanksgiving lesson in which you encourage children to think about what it means to be thankful and brainstorm things for which they are thankful.

(See pictures for step-by-step guide.)
