As we look ahead to chilly temperatures and the inevitable ice and snow of winter, we get our gutters in shape. This year, we're testing an innovative new product, Gutter Stuff, and find it a worthy option, compared to traditional gutter guards. Gutter stuff was recently featured on MSNBC here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27082163/ and you can see photos of it there. It is a foam product which essentially blocks debris, leaves, dirt and other items (acorns, in our case) from gutters. It has already generated a lot of interest, with homeowners hoping that it will reduce home maintenance chores, particularly the unpleasant - and even risky - task of cleaning out gutters.

Gutter Stuff - better than regular gutter guards?

We've had a number of gutter cleaning systems and gutter guards. Some worked much better than others. We're still looking for that perfect product and Gutter Stuff could be that product. Unlike gutter guards which clamp over gutters, Gutter Stuff is a foam insert that essentially blocks the gutter, not allowing any dirt, sticks or even insects to clog gutters. Featured on the Today Show, it has gotten rave reviews from both roofers and average homeowners. It is simple to install, easy enough for anyone to handle (as long as the person can get up on a ladder).

Gutter Stuff- appearance and ease of use

To see photos, go here: http://www.gutterstuff.com/ and if you want to see it in person, check for your nearest location of Ace Hardware, Handy Hardware, True Value and other locations. If it isn't in stock, you can either order at the websites of most Gutter Stuff dealers or have it shipped to a local store for pickup. Once you bring it home, simply take out a ladder and insert it into your gutter. Very simple! In addition to keeping leaves out of your gutter (as well as ice, snow and other debris), it discourages mosquitoes from breeding in your gutters. Water can still flow through Gutter Stuff, so clogs aren't an issue. You won't find yourself having to stick your hands into dirty, smelly gutters again. Gutter Stuff comes with a 5 year warranty.

Anything that helps keep the gutters clean is a big plus for us. My husband will love this idea.

I hadn't heard of this product, but it sound really interesting. We're really getting too old to get up on ladders and clean the gutters. After my husband's fall from/on a ladder last Spring, I'm sure he's not looking forward to cleaning gutters this fall, considering that he has to get up on the roof to clean the gutters on the 2-story part, and if he fell, it would be over 20 feet down. This might be the answer. Thanks!

Gutter Stuff sounds like a great idea for coastal residents who have to deal with mosquitoes and little, live oak leaves that fall - all year long. Will check into this product!

Clogged gutters----the bane of every homeowner, right?! Thanks for the information!

Matthew - Even before Gutter Stuff, I think more people have been cleaning out their own gutters, trying to save money. At least, we had been...and many others on our street. Of course, people will need replacement gutters so maybe the gutter cleaners could segue into doing that. Good point you made, though!

Might look into this. Some neighborhood cats keep jumping and knocking our gutter guards out of place.
