sed on the best selling novel, "The Devil Wears Prada," the movie, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, is a rip-roaring, sinfully good time. Strong supporting actors, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt put the topping on an already delicious dessert of a film.Would be journalist Andrea Sachs (Hathaway) is sent for a job interview with the infamous editor of "the" popular New York fashion magazine, Miranda Priestly (Streep). Andrea really doesn't want to work for a fashion magazine but everyone keeps saying this is a "job that a million girls would kill for.
Still, in her heart of hearts she yearns to be a legitimate journalist. However, when she finds out that if she can spend a year at "Runway" magazine, she'll be able to get any job she wants she decides this might be her big break.
Met at the door by Miranda's first assistant Emily (Blunt), Andrea is shocked by the insulting way she is treated. When Miranda returns early unexpectedly, she interviews Andrea for the second assistant job; almost dismissing her out of hand immediately due to her horribly out-0f-date and lack-luster clothing. But Andrea stands up for herself and manages to make enough of an impression to get the job. What follows is the hilarious tour de farce with Andrea running all over New York attempting to accomplish impossible tasks and constantly being berated by Miranda. However, eventually ends up learning the fashion biz whether she wants to or not.
Streep is delightfully wicked as the editor from hell. She is one a very few actresses who can manage to be both bitchy and charming at the same time. Her work here earned her yet another Golden Globe nomination; this time for best actress in a comedy or musical. While most people agree that the role of Miranda is likely inspired by the life of notorious VOGUE editor Anna Wintour, no one can deny that Streep put her own stamp on this part. With a killer wardrobe, perfectly coifed silver hair, and a smile that would melt old Frosty (the Snowman) himself, Streep sashays through this film looking every bit the star that she is.
