Well, there is certainly nothing new about the fact that Pres. Bush and Congress were the last to realize that something was desperately wrong with the country. And then, after anyone paying the slightest bit of attention could see that this country's economy was going to hell in a hand basket, the absentee President and never-do-anything Congress who finally realized what so many had been shouting at them to understand for decades try to place a Band-Aid on a problem that had been seething for nearly thirty years. The constant and rampant rush to deregulate every industry in America since Ronald Reagan duped dozens of millions of Americans into voting for his insane trickle-down economic theory resulted in the meltdown of this country's basic economic infrastructure. Anybody who was willing to turn off the TV for just ten seconds could have seen it coming. And yet Pres. Bush and the Democrats acted like it just creeped up behind them like a Jason in Friday the 13th, Part XX. Ready for an even scarier sequel?

It took almost thirty years for the Republicans and Democrats to realize that letting Big Business write their own rules could only lead to disaster. Did you have fun watching John McCain's big circus act where he pretended to arrive at the last minute like the Lone Ranger and save us all from misery? Well, one has to wonder which Presidential candidate will play the Lone Ranger in another four years when the health crisis threatens to arrive in the form of a similar meltdown? You know, it would be nice to think this country's leaders will have learned from the near apocalypse that brought us so close to the abyss that even George W. Bush himself managed to realize things weren't just jolly. I mean, if things get so bad that Bush realizes they're bad, well, that must mean things are verrrrrrrrrrry BAD.

I hate the bailout because it is just the rich giving to the rich. I lived in Switzerland for almost ten years, and as far as I can tell, they aren't a socialist country. Their health care system, which seems to be the best in the world isn't socialist, but it sure does work. The American people, however, if confronted with a wonderful health care system like Switzerland's would say, "No, that's just too much government in our lives."

My unfortunate wording of the title may have led some to think I actually meant that the bailout would fix the problem. I do not and was opposed to the bailout as it presently stood. Not because it was socialism, but rather because it wasn't. Socialism is dedicated to helping those who need it; the bailout was capitalism pure and simple: giving freebies to those who can already afford to pay for their own hotel phone calls.

I am no expert on anything, but even I knew this 700 billion wasn't gonna help a damn thing! This is a prime example of socialism, especially since they still took the money after the American people told them no (not once, but twice). Yes, corporate welfare is socialism, too!

Things are getting scary. I have no confidence in our government, they've shocked it out of me. Just when you think things cannot get any worse...

Congress has not only not fixed the economic crisis, they've made it worse by imposing the costs on the taxpayers! Maybe we need to do some Pavlovian conditioning to eradicate middle America's panic at the mere mention of the word "socialism" so that when someone makes a viable health care proposal the wealthy insurance companies can't drive it into oblivion by labeling it socialist.
