When God was doling out punishments for eating fruit from the tree of knowledge he wasn't fooling around. Aside from the whole death thing, the cursed child birth may have been the best punishment EVER to be dreamt up by an angry parent. Way to go Eve! Thanks to advances in science we understand a little better why child birth is a painful process. Rather than being a curse from God it is most likely due to pain related receptors in the Cervix. That being said, knowing where the pain comes from does little to prepare one for the firsthand experience of going through it. So let's get one thing out of the way right off the bat. Labor is painful. Knowledge and education are wonderful things; they prepare us for what's to come. Since labor is different in all women, and all women have different responses to pain, the reality of labor may be far from the anticipated result. Anyone who tells you labor can be a pain free experience without the use of drugs is stretching the truth. However there are ways to lessen the body's response to pain without drugs, making natural child birth far more user friendly. Several Non Medicinal ways can be employed to reduce pain and cope with labor, without the side effects of pharmacology. . Planning ahead is never a bad idea especially when it comes to preparing your body for the process of child birth. If you don't have a fitness program already start one. With the exception of high impact exercises, contact sports, and things requiring balance pretty much everything goes. Make no mistake about it, labor is an endurance test, and exercise has been shown to shave time off the distance.
Learning a relaxation technique prior to being in the throws of labor could be one of the best gifts you'll ever give yourself. Relaxation is a honed skill and not one which can be learned quickly, especially in the grip of pain. As part of childbirth education most classes at the very least give brief lessons in relaxation techniques. The use of relaxation is thought to reduce pain by decreasing anxiety, and lowering the release of stress hormones.
