Decorating Your Staircase for the Holidays

When you consider decorating a staircase, you are decorating a descending or ascending area. They can be long, short, and even spiral. They are unique, in the sense that they you can have a theme attached to your
decorating idea. For example, if you had a nativity set at the bottom of the staircase, you could have a "Star of Bethlehem" overhead at the top of the staircase You could even do a "Twelve Days of Christmas" theme starting at the bottom and working up or vice versa. This article will provide you with some ideas as well as some safety issues to consider. Let's first look at themes.

Simple Themes

A simple theme could be just to use evergreen rope and loop it around the banisters. You could even wind it through the different banister rungs at the step level. Besides evergreen, you could use gold or solver tinsel rope. You could run it together or separate just like you would with the evergreen. Another simple idea is to tie bows to the banister rungs. You could mix the colors or go with just one solid color. You could use red and white streamer paper and make the rungs look like candy canes. Another simple idea, would be to tie sprigs of evergreen in small bundles around every third rung of the banister. You could alternate evergreen and colored bows. You could tape Christmas cards to each rung or just set them upright on each step. Many individuals like the idea of keeping decorations simple, especially if they are wanting to showcase their staircase.

Concentrated Themes

Disney Theme; On each step place a Disney character. These are usually stuffed animals like Goofy, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and so on. Just set them along the wall side. You could do this Marvel characters, SpongeBob, or any other type of cartoon theme.

Toy Trains; If you have boys in your home, you could do the same with different train cars. Start with the Engine and finish with the Caboose.

Wild Life: Like the Disney theme, just use stuffed animals like Lions, Elephants, Zebras and so on.

Farm Toys could be another theme. Set them up like you would the toy trains. Use Combines, Tractors, Wagons, Hay Balers, cows, pigs and other items to give it a farm look.
