October is one of my favorite months of the year. The baseball playoffs are starting, the college football season is in full swing and for those of you that like the NHL and NFL the season is just beginning. Naturally a lot of memorable sports moments have happened in the month of October. These are some of the greatest moments that have occurred on October 8th.

This Day In Sports: October 8th, 1956
My favorite postseason is the World Series. There have been so many amazing moments in World Series history but not many compare to October 8th, 1956. Everybody says that "nobody is perfect" and for an entire career that may be true but for one day, on the biggest stage in baseball, Donald James Larsen was just that, perfect. Don Larsen became the first pitcher to throw a perfect game in the World Series and is still the only pitcher to do so.

This Day in Sports: October 8th, 1957
One year after Don Larsen was perfect against the Brooklyn Dodgers the Dodgers announced that they had accepted a deal to move the ball club to Los Angeles. I don't think it had anything to do with Don Larsen but I would get as far away from him as I could too.

This Day in Sports: October 8th, 1995
On October 8th, 1995 the Seattle Mariners completed one of the best September/October runs of all-time. The Mariners trailed the California Angels by 13 games in September and came back to tie the division the last day of the season. The Mariners then won a tiebreaker to win the division. The Mariners went on to face the Yankees in the ALDS and lost the first two games of the series. The Mariners would come back and tie the series at 2 - 2. Finally on October 8th, 1995 Edgar Martinez would hit a Walkoff 2 run double in the bottom of the 11th to send the Seattle Mariners to the ALCS. The 1995 season saved baseball in Seattle as the fans were rejuvenated and the city decided to build a new stadium.

Can you imagine what it must've felt like to throw a perfect game in the World Series? Yeah this is a good time of year for sports. Of course I am just a bit down due to the collapse of the Cubs. But never give up, never give in, there will be next year. Very enjoyable article. Thanks.
