Goofing Off

I want to go outside and play
I don't want to stay inside today.
I'm tired of all the things I say
My writing is getting in the way.

I want to go out for a run.
I just want to sunbathe in the sun.
I want to stop and have some fun
Ignore my deadlines under the gun.

The stress is turning my world brown.
I don't smile anymore; I just frown.
I want to lounge in my nightgown
Not letting anything get me down.

I want to see my grandson's smile;
And hear Kaitlyn's laughter for awhile;
Enjoy my husband's charming guile
Maybe give myself a brand new style.

I want to call my friends and talk
And take my mother for a long walk.
I want to stop for once to gawk
And listen to those things that squawk.

It must be time to take time off
To go bowling or play some golf.
But I'd feel guilty and I'd scoff
Because I don't deserve the time off.

Everybody feels the same way.
They also want to go out and play.
So I will wait and here I'll stay.
I'll have to wait for another day.
