Obama Campaign Office in Omaha Sparks Anti-Abortionists

Is Nebraska Too Red to Even Consider Becoming Partly Blue?

Senator Obama's presidential campaign officially opened up an office in North Omaha by 48th and Ames today. This has attracted the attention of anti-abortion protesters. They have large pictures of deformed fetuses. There are also signs that state No

to ObamaNation and abortion is an abomination.

The people with these anti-abortion signs and pictures were at the entrance to the parking lot. There were only three of them at 5:30 p.m. on October 8. There was tension in the air. A police car was stationed on the street close to these picketers.

Less tension occurred within the parking lot. There was also a large crowd right outside Senator Obama's presidential campaign headquarters in North Omaha. A rough estimate of the crowd showed that there were at least 100 rather quiet and calm people.

Why is Obama's presence in Nebraska stirring up the Pro-Life movement so much? Many religious organizations don't look at only one moral issue anymore. Besides abortion, Sojourners, a religious organization and website also looks at poverty, war, nuclear weapons, capital punishment, and genocide.

Catholics United mentions how abortions went down during the Clinton presidency. It also mentions how important it is to provide women and families with many choices and tools so they are not forced, because of economics, into an abortion. It appears that 75% of abortions occur because the women don't believe that they would be able to financially look after the child.

Some of these concerns and issues were talked about with a voter in Omaha a couple of weeks ago. She did not seem concerned about any issue but abortion. This woman even mentioned that she thought about voting for Senator Obama until she heard he was pro-choice.

With the words of this woman and the anti-Obama signs from the picketers, a question arises. Can Senator Obama actually win one of the the electoral votes in Nebraska if the people of Omaha are still so concerned about the issue of abortion?

The October 6th issue from Electoral-vote.com also states that the Omaha district is currently running +9 for Senator McCain. That is a significant lead.
