It's not ALOT, but always A LOT,
A lot of folks make this error. Not one word, it's NOT!

There are three words whose meanings, I fear, have leaked:
Pique, peek, peak -- which one do you seek?
The man looking into your window: He peeks!
Ed Hilary on Mt. Everest: the peak!
Are you interested in the story? Your attention is piqued!
Remember them, please, or your readers will squeak!

Is this a secret kept between we?
Of course not, it's between you and me!
If you'd say you and I, say we --
But if we follow "between," or "for," or "in," it's - us. (And no, that doesn't rhyme! we must?)

If you add him, then it's not between,
With you, and me, and him, it's among!
Just you and me, it hides between,
With them and us, among a throng!

So much to err, it's human, it is,
but one more line I ask:
The possessive of "it" is always "its"
"It is" is "it's" -- you pass!

Love it! Ashamed to say I often become muddled as to whether or not 'alot' is a word.

Great educational poem! :o) I love how you make it easy to remember (and it does rhyme well enough for yours truly!). I do make typos too often for my comfort, also. It's especially hard to catch when the essay is a long one and if I move phrases or paragraphs around a bit... Then the next thing I know I'd have singular noun teamed up with plural verbs! And why does it seem that mistakes like those are so easy to spot once the essay is published than before... on the preview screen? Arrrrgghhhhhhh! :o)

! know the difference between it's and its -- but when I'm writing quickly, as you may notice in my writing, sometimes that apostrophe slips in when it shouldn't. To err is human, right? I also know the difference between right and write, but again, if I'm writing fast, the wrong one comes out. It's really embarrassing when I don't notice it until the piece is published! LOL!

A joy to read and I hope I remember the distinctions. I generally recall the difference between "its" and "it's" but some of the others throw me - if I'm in a rush. As the parent of a child who learned English late (older adoptee) I know that it can be particularly confusing when some of the rules aren't learned early. So much of English grammar seems to be picked up during youth.
