The San Dova NBA 2008-2009 Season Preview
Elton Brand's gone, Corey Maggette finally left after dissatisfaction with coach Mike Dunleavy Sr., and Elgin Baylor is no longer at the helm of making basketball decisions. In short, the Clippers don't seem to be in aBaron Davis, a.k.a. B. Diddy a.k.a. Boom Dizzle, the former South Central L.A. hometown kid from Crossroads High and UCLA has finally returned home, coming to the Clippers after a career revitalization with the Golden State Warriors. While thought to be a tandem with Brand, Davis has the talent and charisma to keep the Clips playing decent. He's not automatically going to make the Clips an instant playoff entrant (not unlike his former situation with the Warriors), with good health, he can keep the team in playoff contention.
Chris Kaman is coming back and he'll be focused, which will be a welcome asset to a team needing low-post scoring, and he may end up being an All-Star. Marcus Camby is now in Los Angeles, and while basically playing as a center for the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets, will most likely settle at his natural power forward position, even more likely as the starting 4-man. Al Thornton, a human lightning bolt of a basketball player, will really bring good fortune to the Clippers as the starting small forward; his ability to play big and quick at the same time will give him the upper hand on available minutes, even at power forward. Cuttino Mobley will most likely stay as the starter at shooting guard and has been reliable there despite his slow drop in production; unfortunately for him, Eric Gordon, the Indiana star rookie will be on the scene to make a splash right behind him.
