My husband and I were married on April 9, 2005. Immediately, we started trying to get pregnant. We were both very eager to start a family, as we are very family-oriented people. Since I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was a teenager, I had a feeling that I would have problems with conception. It turns out that I never really did have endometriosis-- but that's another story altogether. My hubby and I were given the green light to go ahead and start trying. The OB-GYN didn't think that I would have any problems at all. So, when I got pregnant in November of 2005, we were overjoyed. I told my husband on Christmas morning, and we told the rest of our family later that day. Everyone was thrilled.
On January 12, 2006, I started bleeding. My OB-GYN told me that it was probably implantation bleeding, but to come in if the bleeding got heavier. Much to my dismay, the bleeding did get heavier. I had an ultrasound and bloodtest done-- bot of which came back negative. To make matters worse, my progesterone level was 0.4. "Normal" women have their progesterone level around a 15 - 20 when they get pregnant. Something was wrong.
We were told to wait three months before we tried again. So, we did. In April, which was the third cycle, we tried again, but to no avail. The same thing for May. My progesterone level was still lower than 2, which was disheartening. In the beginning of June, the OB-GYN prescribed 50mg of Clomid, a fertility drug to help me ovulate and bring my progesterone level up. It worked-- My progesterone level was brought to a 5.3, the highest it had been since we started trying. But, the OB-GYN didn't think that I could possibly be pregnant, so she didn't even bother doing any tests. I started bleeding, although very lightly, and she considered that my menstrual cycle. She upped my dosage to 100mg of Clomid, and told me to start it on day 5 of my cycle.
