Did you know that the ideal sales letter only has four straightforward paragraphs? If you start with "I'm writing to you..." and ramble on to introduce yourself, your company and all the products and services you sell, you are in for a rude shock. No one will respond. Such a self-serving, lengthy and boring sales letter won't give you any results, so it's time to do it right.

Raise An Issue

Talk about exactly what concerns your prospects. Bring their minds to the issue at hand, convince them they have a problem to be solved. If you know something in common they all have, talk about that. If you are selling an ebook on SEO, you should tell them you understand their need for informative and helpful material on how to achieve greater search engine rankings without spending millions.

Introduce The Solution

You've brought up the issue in the earlier paragraph, so now tell them your solution for it. Using the previous example, tell them what your ebook can give them and how it can help them get rid of the problem.

Present Your Credentials

Now it's time to tell your prospects why they should trust you. Customer relationships can't be built upon shaky foundations, so you have to present your relevant credentials to them. Tell them how long your company has been in business, what you specialise in, any awards and accolades you've won for your products or services etc. Avoid using superlatives to describe anything here. Never use phrases such as "we are the best in the industry" or "as a leading distributor in the industry." Every sales letter claims to be from the best and the leading and potential customers are wise to this misdirection. Simply present everything factually.

Direct Them To A Call-To-Action

This is your chance to tell your prospects exactly how to get what you are offering. Give them a clear call-to-action. Again, with the above example, you must say something similar to " the answers to all your SEO questions are found in my ebook, so call me now on +123-456-7890 or click on the link below for instant access." Always keep your call-to-action clear and concise.
