There are many creative science experiments that the home school family can create and enjoy together. One of the many benefits of the home school environment is that parents and children can work together in a creative way to learn and grow. The sky is the limit when a family decides to home school because there are infinite possibilities to educate, whereas in a standard classroom, projects are ritualistic and limited by government funding. If you are looking for a science experiment as a home school family, use the idea in this article to get you started!

Young children are often very excited by nature. Particularly things much bigger and profound that is natural. One of the things that often spark the curiosity of children is volcanos. Home school families can work together to create an experiment that will be remembered for years! Together, you and your children can build a volcano and enjoy watching it explode!

You will need the following items to build your volcano:

  • Spray foam or plaster (You may even choose to use the new moon sand or floam that it is in the market today)
  • Spray Paint - brown and/or black (you can use other colors if you wish to be creative. Girls may enjoy having a pink volcano, or boys may enjoy a blue volcano)
  • Some sort of small container that can be placed at the top on the volcano
  • Food coloring (Once again, you can use whatever color that you wish for your lava to be, but red and orange seem to be among the most popular)
  • Vinegar
  • Dish soap that is liquid
  • Piece of cardboard or wood

The first thing you will want to do is gather all of your supplies. Once you have everything that you will need, find a good location to lay your piece of wood or cardboard. Get the spray foam and/or plaster and create a large base. As you go up, make it smaller and smaller until it looks like a volcano. At the very top of the volcano, you want to ensure that you leave enough room to put your container in.
