When George W. Bush was governor of the state of Texas, he quickly gained marked popularity among constituents. He wasn't long into his first term before many began to hope he would have presidential aspirations. Little did they know, he already had. When he was re-elected to his second term in November 1998, he became the first governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms.

Of course his being elected to the Presidency of the United States of America was a victory for American conservatives, but it was also an indication that many wanted someone in the White House who cared about the issues that would make our country better: socially and economically.

This country was very fortunate that Bush was the Commander in Chief in September 2001. Terrorists like the evil ones that attacked our great nation on September 11 count on there being someone in charge who will fold to accommodate them, who will sympathize with their ridiculous messages and who will appease them in the false hope that they will leave us alone. George W. Bush was not that person, and they hated it.

I am one of the Americans who responded to the invasion of Iraq with "It's about time!" I'd wished Saddam Hussein had been removed long before. And I don't understand why it would be a stretch for anyone to believe that this man would have acquired and used weapons of mass destruction against the U.S. first chance he got. I'm glad his endeavor to do so was unsuccessful. By the time his refusal to allow weapons inspectors in, and the silly games he was playing got really old, Bush had given the evil dictator plenty of opportunities to avoid what ultimately happened. Most of Iraq's own citizens were thankful that finally someone stood up and did the right thing, allowing them freedom from this reigning terrorist.

What happened with this country...we're going down that's for sure.... i remember when we had respect for our country and stood beside our president. I know Bush made many mistakes, but seriously what do you expect nobody backed him up or supported him. Whoever the next president is....i say we back em' up. If you don't like what he's for or about then pray for him!! Enough of all the rebuking....

George Bush had the guts to make a hard decision in the interests of our security and an oppressed group of people. If it ends up working, I cannot see why letting a country of Muslims experience the benefits of freedom and democracy would not do more to hinder Muslim extremism than even the execution of one man (Osama). Especially since Osama's execution would probably put him in some exalted "Martyr for the Cause" Status in the eyes of other extremists. Muslim's extremists seem to feed on revenge. --This is painfully evident if you remember the videos of the televised Iranian rally's in the past that cast the USA as "The Great Satan". -- Past rally's which can also remind us of how large this group of extremists really is. Maybe history will show that George W. made the best decision but the most unpopular one. Too bad.... he may get most of his kudos posthumously.

Because you are from Iraq, correct? And you can say with 100 % accuracy that the people of that nation are in a better situation than before. You DO need help.

For all of those ignorant people that say "Iraq didn't attack us on 9/11, so why attack them?" Well, Nazi Germany didn't attack us during WW II, but they posed a threat to nat'l security and our allies. Hussein (not Barack) killed hundreds of thousands of his own people. If I were them, I'd want someone to help me. He did the right thing.

Propaganda is icky. I avoid it all costs.

your article seems riddled with much of the propaganda put out in the US.

yeah...I agree with you :-)

every decision requires a cost benefit analysis of what should be done, what can't be done because something else is being done. The point is Iraq wasn't the best place to commit our resources without an adequate plan 3 years ago. If we'd committed our troops to Afghanistan in the numbers that went to Iraq, we'd have caught Osama by now. But let's leave that alone. Going into Iraq without a real plan and for the wrong reasons has our military strapped in 2007 just as we might actually need them for the much more real threat of Iran.

If Clinton were in office right now, and had the guts to get Sadaam out of power, I would be thrilled with that too. I am for the same result no matter who helps achieve it, unline many liberals. Sadaam himself was a terrorist, someone who terrorized his own people and strived to harm the U.S.--I'm glad he didn't get that chance. And the bumper sticker is as retarded as it is crude. I wouldn't have even impeached Clinton for his lapse in judgement. And there is not one reason to impeach Bush. Horrid, evil people in Iraq (the inusrgents) terrorize and kill, then our president gets blamed for their behavior. Unbelievable.

I saw a bumper sticker that read "can someone please give Bush a blow*** so we can impeach him?" - sorry for the crude humor, but its so ironic and true.

Saddam was a dictator running his own little country - he would never have allowed shadowy terrorist groups to operate in Iraq as long as he was in control...Iraq has already warmed up to Iran, something that never would have happened with Saddam in place.... Was Sddam a bad man? Yes... But after 9/11 we had priorities - and invading Iraq should not have been one of them. Why don't we go to Darfur? or Zimbabwe? - because there is no strategic or economic advantage despite the evil things happening in those countries...Bush has had almost 4 years to fix Iraq and it's just gotten worse. What if this was Clinton in charge, would you be giving him all these chances?

No, Scott-just the basics. These are my personal reasons for having always supported the president. But don't worry, your tact wasn't lost on me!

roddma & Oliver -- President Bush actually went to Yale. Harvard was just a 2 year MBA for him.

I respect loyalty and got excited when I saw your title, but the article and its reasoning are very poor. I was hoping for more.
