Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols

1977 has reinforced the perverted perpetuation of disco, solidifying its "place" in American music with the major motion picture release of Saturday Night Fever, where there is nothing else to live for but dancing and doing drugs. But over the murky waters of the Atlantic Ocean, punk rock is rearing its ugly head, waiting to crush the puny souls of disco queens everywhere.Brought together in 1975 by sex shoppe owner Malcolm McLaren, the Sex Pistols were originally comprised of Steve Jones on guitar, Paul Cook on drums, Glen Matlock on bass, and Johnny Rotten on vocals. Matlock was soon replaced by the group's self-proclaimed number one fan, the annihilative Sid Vicious.
Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols not only provides a much needed breath of fresh air to the decaying music industry, but it will also knock the air out of you and kick you when you're down. Listen to Never Mind the Bollocks and you can almost hear Rotten sneering as you pogo through the filth and the fury of Jones's stentorian guitar, Cook's jagged drums, and Vicious's filthy bass.
The album opens with a Nazi marching beat brutally interrupted by an electrifying guitar that evokes post WWII sentiments about Germany and the schism created by the construction of the Berlin Wall. "Holidays in the Sun" mocks Berlin's destitution with Rotten proclaiming wanting to spend "a cheap holiday in other people's misery," because he has a "reasonable economy." The Sex Pistols not only expose the misery abroad, but declares to his fellow Britons that "there is no future for you" in songs like "Anarchy in the UK" and "God Save the Queen." "Anarchy in the UK" kicks off with a scuzzy guitar introduction which is subsequently drowned by Rotten's maniacal laughter as he wants to destroy the government and proclaiming that "[he] knows what [he] wants and [he] knows how to get it."
