One of the great political scandals of 2008 concerns a left wing group called ACORN, which is now not only under investigation for voter registration fraud in multiple states, but is also tied to subprime mortgage mess. Barack Obama also has ties to ACORN.

One the activities of ACORN, also known as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is to register low income people to vote. But it seems that ACORN has had a tendency to take short cuts, padding their registration lists with fake names. Last year, two ACORN workers were tried and convicted of voter registration fraud.

This election cycle, ACORN has attracted the attention of the FBI. The FBI has raided ACORN offices in Nevada and North Carolina. More sweeps of ACORN offices nationwide are expected.

In Nevada, it was discovered that the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys football team are registered to vote. The problem is, none of these football players are known to be legal residents of the state.

Evidence of ACORN's illegal activities have shown up in Missouri, Connecticut, Wisconson, Ohio, and Indiana. In Indianapolis it appears that a hundred and five percent of the population are registered to vote.

Why is the practice of registering fake people a danger to democracy? Many states do not have voter ID laws. Therefore anyone can show up at the polls claiming to be anyone, in theory at least, and vote. The potential for voter fraud, benefiting Barack Obama, is immense.

ACORN has also been heavily involved in the causing the liquidity crisis that stemmed from subprime mortgage practices. The Washington Time's Mon Charen explains:

"ACORN recognized very early the opportunity presented by the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977. As Stanley Kurtz has reported, ACORN proudly touted "affirmative action" lending, and pressured banks to make subprime loans. Madeline Talbott, a Chicago ACORN leader, boasted of "dragging banks kicking and screaming" into dubious loans. And, as Sol Stern reported in City Journal, ACORN also found a remunerative niche as an "adviser" to banks seeking regulatory approval."

Great article. I did extensive research on ACORN and found much of the same thing. Being very near Cleveland, I am extremely familiar with what they are doing in the area.

This article is full of falsehoods, omissions, and exaggerations. The FBI did not raid the ACORN office in Nevada -- the state policy agency did. (http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/07/acorn-vegas-office-raided-voter-fraud-investigation/) Obama was never an ACORN trainer. He represented ACORN as a lawyer, along with the Dept. of Justice, to get the State of Illinois to enforce its own election laws, and won an award from the legal profession for the case. (http://fightthesmears.com/articles/20/acornrumor?source=sem-pm-fts-ac-search-us&gclid=CLDxtrr6mpYCFQVxFQod4BP47g) Walter Annenberg was a billionaire Reaganite Republican. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_H._Annenberg) Before denouncing Obama for sitting on the same Annenberg foundation board as Ayers, fellow conservatives should be denouncing Annenberg for putting Ayers on that board to begin with.

Another well written piece that should be featured. Keep up the good work Mark.

I was appalled at the news of ACORN's foray into fake voter registrations, particularly in swing states. If I were Obama, I would denounce these actions and cooperate in anyway to help this mess get straightened out. However, I will also point out that the pundits point to massive voter registrations pouring into to districts that typically vote democratic as a sign of Obama's sure win of the presidency. Smart voters should take that info with a grain of salt, since it is painfully obvious that fraud is occurring. Granted, not all fake registrants will vote (I would hope not) but that reporting that high new voter registrations in democratic areas does tend to lend to the psychology behind voting. No one wants to vote for the loser and the media leading us to believe Obama will be the victor based on registration trends is unfair to McCain, especially when those registrations are, in many cases, fake (some districts half of what ACORN brought in were determined fraudulent)
