The L.A. Dodgers swept the Cubs off the playoff map, but I'm still throwing in my cards with the west coast team for the rest of the postseason. Cub fans don't cry. We ramp up our hopes for the next outing and sometimes that is not an easy thing to do.

I was just eight years old when the Dodgers moved to L.A.. The Catholic church had told me I'd reached the age of reason. Moving the Dodgers was my first inkling that there was something wrong in the world. If this can happen maybe they will move the Cubs to Florida or Arizona. I grew to hate east coast teams and the Brooklyn boys seemed perfectly comfortable on the sunny west coast. I pretty much forgot about them for years unless they were playing a series with the Cubs. My ears perked up when they hired the best manager in baseball. Sorry Lou (Pinella) and Tony (LaRussa) but Joe Torre is the best. The West coast recently has been a weak division but they do devil the Cubs. San Diego, Arizona and now the Dodgers have all doused all hope in Chicago.

With Torre and Manny the Dodgers feel like an east coast team. They've got a lot of young talent and Torre is a good instructional and motivational coach, he's also the best with the older more pronounced egos. Just look at Manny!

I saw Duke Snider hit a homer at Wrigley Field. We always made a point to watch Drysdale and Koufax pitch. We were glad L.A. was far away.

I hate the Phillies and the BoSox and have no feelings at all for Tampa Bay. The Cubs sat on the Dodgers (5-2) during the season but L.A. came up big when it counted. They are the definite underdogs to take the Series and that makes me like them even more. Torre is going to spunk it up when facing the east coast rivals. Go Brooklyn, oops, I mean Los Angeles.

It was odd watching the highlights from game 1 of the NLCS. It felt like the bad 'ole days when the Cubs were never in the mix, and the Dodgers and Phils always were. It was as if the Cubs great year didn't even happen. Bizarre. Twilight zonish. As a Cubs fan, I'm not sure what to do: laugh it off, cry it away, or wait again til next year.
