The Associated Press reported that Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, is related to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Britain's Princess Diana. According to the AP, Sarah Palin is FDR's 9th cousin once removed and Princess Diana's 10th cousin. Interestingly enough, FDR was our country's 32nd president and was a democrat, which Sarah Palin is not. FDR is probably most well known for the New Deal, which ushered in social work programs which helped bring our nation out of the Great Depression.Strange Genealogy: Barack Obama is related to George W. The Sarah Palin/FDR connection is not the only strange bit of genealogy to make the news. Barack Obama is also tied to none other than President George Bush. According to a Chicago Sun Times article, both President George Bush and Barack Obama share a common ancestor from Massachusetts. According to the article, the two men "share the same great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents -- Samuel Hinckley and Sarah Soole Hinckley." That makes the George Bush and Barack Obama 11th cousins. When Obama criticizes the Bush administration, he is criticizing his own family member.

Nearly one year ago, the Washington Post reported that Lynne Cheney, Vice President Dick Cheney's wife, found a common ancestor with Barack Obama while researching her book "Blue Skies, No Fences." Mrs. Cheney identified a common Maryland relative in the Cheney family tree, making the vice president related to Barack Obama as 8th cousins.
