I have four nieces that look to their Aunt Mary for advice on all aspects of life. They ask questions about boyfriends, school, grades, fashion, shoes and makeup. I do pretty good when it comes to all of those categories until we got to makeup. Three of my nieces are African American and are age sixteen, thirteen, and ten. Being a blond, pale white woman I have to admit to being completely stumped when the oldest girl came to me for advice. She couldn't seem to find makeup in the drugstore that would even out her skin tones or cover up that hideous imperfection called a pimple that she just knew was the size of a refrigerator and she couldn't possibly go out the front door looking like that! I went to the one place that I knew there would be information for me, the Internet. I started searching for cosmetics made for women with skin of color. And thankfully one of the first ones that I found was Iman.
The first thing that I noticed was that it was a high-quality product that I knew would not hurt their skin. Protecting their skin was the most important thing to me. The idea that I might recommend something that might hurt one of the girls was unthinkable, so knowing that the product was all about quality was extremely important to this aunt.
I kept reading and found out that Iman produces a tinted moisturizer that includes an SPF. Young girls like to skip steps in a beauty regimen, so to know that I could actually find three products in one was a great idea. She needed a moisturizer for her face that would also control the oily areas. Again, Iman came through with a product that targeted her Oily/Acne Prone skin while still providing coverage for her that she needed.
Now it does cost more than those drugstore brands that are cheaper, and in these economic times it was harder to convince her mother that this was the right product to buy. But once I explained the quality of the product and that it really was necessary for her to take care of her skin at this age, then she began to see the real value of Iman. So the initial purchase included for the sixteen and thirteen year old's the basic skin care and the tinted moisturizer.
