Protecting your eyesight is very important when working at a computer for many hours during the day. If you are straining to see the screen, then you may have damaged your eyes. Proper positioning of your chair, desk, and monitor will help reduce the affects of eye strain so that you will be able to see clearly during other times of day when you are not at your computer. The monitor should be placed at eye level and should be at least ten inches away. Many times, making these simple changes will help you see better when working on the computer. If you cannot move your monitor, you may be able to adjust your chair so that the monitor is in the correct position. Once your monitor is in the correct position, you should make sure that you have enough light to read by. If not, consider buying a small lamp that will fit on your desk. Not having enough light will also put strain on your eyes. Once you have strained your eyes, they will not repair themselves and return to normal. You will have to see a doctor who may prescribe glasses or contact lenses. Over time, your eyes will probably get worst.
Another way to protect your eyes is to get enough sleep at nighttime. This will allow your eyes to rest so that they will be ready to be used again the next day. You should try to go to sleep at a decent hour and make sure that you sleep through the night. Eating a proper diet will also help you protect your eyesight. Many times people do not eat enough food during the day when they are at work. This could put a strain on your eyes. Eating vegetables that are filled with vitamins and nutrients will help feed every part of your body, but will also help you with your vision.
When visiting an eye doctor, ask them for additional ways to maintain good vision. At the workplace, it is very important to make sure that your work station is safe. Since you will spend the majority of your time in that space, investing in a glare shield for your monitor if you are seated next to a window, a chair that can be adjusted, and a monitor whose color can also be adjusted will help keep your eyes safe and healthy for a long time.
