Moving? Where to Get Free Boxes

No one wants to pay for cardboard boxes to move with. Some are going to get ripped apart and torn to pieces, while others will have things broken and seeping into them. Do you want to pay upwards of $1 for each large box and $.75 for a small box just have them trashed after you use them?
What about the trees that were used to make those boxes? Some people are more concerned with the environment than the cost of permanent enclosures for moving. The following information will tell you how and where to go to get free boxes when you are moving.

Contact your local Uhaul, they do sell boxes, but they also have a recycle program. This means that everyone who buys boxes from them and then returns them is leaving those boxes for other people to use. So if they have any recycle boxes, you can pick them up at your leisure and return them for someone else to use at no charge, as long as you promise to bring some back. If your Uhaul does not have any available, call some of the other locations in your area. They will not all be dry of boxes to use, and it never hurts to ask them to donate some to you.

Go to your local shopping mall. If you go to the security office, you can generally talk to the manager of the mall. If you ask the permission of the manager to collect junk boxes from behind the building, and he or she grants permission, no one can keep you from getting them. If the manager tells you no, then go to some of the stores inside the mall and ask them for any trash boxes they may be getting rid of from their storeroom. Most are willing to give them to you, it keeps them from having to break them down and walk them outside.

Lastly, visit some local grocery stores and discount stores as well as rental businesses. If they crush their boxes, you may need to go inside and find a stock member of the crew. Getting them to give up boxes is much easier when you catch them before they are crushed. When they get shipments in on Tuesdays, normally there is a surplus of boxes from the loading dock. Many truck drivers that deliver to these businesses will gladly give you extra boxes that they have on hand as well. Remember, it never hurts to ask. You never know the answer until you ask the question.
