Retro Review: Star Trek Nemesis

Star Trek. When these words are uttered to any person anywhere, the majority of times, they will think of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and/or the conventions filled with various forms of social misfits. The three documentaries did not help the image of these fans to say the very least. You have the trekkies and the trekkers. Depending on who you ask, the two have alternating defintions. What I believe is that trekkers are the fans who know of the series, can discuss it, and enjoy everything about them. But they do not carry their fandom to obsessive levels. Wearing costumes, living out ideals set by Gene Rodenberry's writings and spending thousands of dollars on merchandise and memorabilia are things a trekker wouldn't do. A trekkie is the direct opposite. He will debate, fight and argue about which episodes are better. He will spend an extreme amount of money in making his garage look like a medical bay. He will bid crazily on a uniform to either wear it to a convention or place on display in a hidden closet in his residence. Either way, the trekkie and the trekker have kept Star Trek alive for over thirty years. In case you're wondering, I am a trekker. I like the show, the novels, and the various websites dedicated to the this science fiction icon. But I will not wear a costume or pay hundreds of thousands to make my living room look like the captain's ready room. I'll probably buy some DVDs though.
