Gerald Ford, former President of the United States, has died in his home outside of Los Angeles at the age of 93. America's 38th President had suffered from numerous health problems throughout the year. In January of this year he had battled pneumonia. He had also gone under two treatments at the Mayo Clinic for his heart.
Ford was America's only unelected President. He had been appointed Vice President after Spiro Agnew resigned from the position. After Nixon's resignation, Ford assumed the presidency and had pardoned Nixon soon afterwards. Gerald Ford only served in the office for 895 days.

The announcement of his death was made by his wife, Betty Ford. "My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age," Mrs. Ford said in a brief statement issued from her husband's office in Rancho Mirage. "His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country." He is survived by Betty and his four children.
