SpongeBob SquarePants: WhoBob WhatPants?

On Monday, October 13, 2008, Nickelodeon premiered the SpongeBob SquarePants special, "WhoBob WhatPants?" When the opening theme song played, there was a slight change to the lyrics... anywhere that "SpongeBob SquarePants" appeared, the words were replaced with "WhoBob WhatPants." When the title of the episode appeared, it showed the actual title of the story was, "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?" (the "WhoBob WhatPants?" name was just a name being used to hype the special).

The story begins one morning with SpongeBob getting into several mishaps: he squeezes Gary so hard that he breaks Gary's shell, he destroys the birthday cake Patrick made for his mother, he wakes up Squidward, he destroys Sandy's robot, and he manages to cook some of Mr. Krabs' money in some cooking oil. Each person calls him an "Idiot Boy" and tells him to leave them alone. SpongeBob ends up feeling unwanted, and he runs away from home. During his traveling, SpongeBob ends up falling off a cliff and bouncing over several rocks as he falls. He gets a big bump on his head, and ends up losing his memory. A couple of people trying to steal SpongeBob's belongings convince him his name is actually "CheeseHead BrownPants."

Meanwhile, Bikini Bottom has plunged into chaos, because people can't get their Krabby Patties (with SpongeBob gone, Mr. Krabs doesn't have a fry cook). Patrick and Sandy find a note at SpongeBob's house, and learn he's run away. SpongeBob's friends end up feeling guilty about how they treated him (except Squidward). Sandy has a tracking device to locate SpongeBob, but Squidward intentionally destroys it. Mr. Krabs tells Squidward he has to find SpongeBob, or he's fired from the Krusty Krab and won't get an egg for his collection as his retirement gift. Squidward gives in and helps.
