Phoenix -- With Election Day approaching, the presidential campaigns are heating up but so are the local propositions on the ballot. Arizona Proposition 102 is up for re-election. The proposition, originally voted on in 2006, is set to clarify marriage as a union between "one man and one woman."

Television advertisements have been running locally in Phoenix for a few weeks promoting a "yes" vote, but recently outdoor advertising has surfaced and those who oppose 102 are making their voice heard.

According to the "Yes on 102!" campaign their signs have been the target of vandalism, examples include the "yes" text being crossed out to reflect a "no," the signs being stolen, and signs damaged to the point that its unreadable. Though I condemn the thought of defacing another persons or companies property, I was able to hear and see the message loud and clear.

Personally, I am against Proposition 102, I believe since the state of Arizona has already voted down the idea of a clear definition of the word "marriage" it should not be voted on again. Furthermore, if Arizonians wanted to ban gay marriage or stop the grassroots movement that a "no" vote, a second time, may jump start, they would have done so in 2006.

America is changing daily. As we try to redefine what it is to be an "American" and what it means to live in "America," I can't help but wonder if America will truly be a place of equality, and afford everyone the chance to obtain and live the American "dream."

Does it really matter to my next door neighbor if I decided to spend the rest of my life with a man? Would his/her life be better fulfilled if I chose a women instead? People who I don't know are about to vote on a topic that can change my life.

Apparently, my life decision to legally, ask a man to be my "husband" has an impact on your daily life. Maybe you're worried that by granting me the right to marry the banquet halls for a wedding reception will be booked and their won't be enough room for your own wedding, or we'll beat you to the cake order at the most prestigious baker in town. Really, what affect does it have on you?

Traditional marriages in the USA as depicted by Prop 102 end in divorce at the rate of 50% of 1st , 67% of 2nd, and 74% of 3rd marriages as sourced from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. Answer this, how can Prop 102 preserve traditional marriages by writing blatant discrimination into out state constitution, it can't.

Like there aren't enough problems for government to work on-people have created this "issue" as a political concern! I also think that the prejudices (and ignorance) about same gender relationships is lessening but until politicians quit using it as a campaign prop the same outdated and irrelevant beliefs continue. Most of the people that I know don't consider this to be an issue these days.

Same battle going on in California where the courts already upheld the legal right to civil marriage regardless of gender. My friend's "No. on Prop 8 sign, a large metal one, was ripped in half on her front lawn. She and her two daughters were greeted by that as they went out to start their day. Civil rights are civil rights. Either we all share in them equally or they are meaningless.
