Naming your baby is no easy task, especially with the amount of names to choose from these days. Being a mother of two daughters, I know the difficulty that comes with choosing a baby name.
Baby names have gotten to be stranger and celebrities are not helping in this case. I have come up with a few tips that I believe parents should follow when choosing their baby's name. When you are choosing a baby name, there is more to it than picking a nice sounding name and middle name. Follow these tips to make sure that you choose a great name for your new baby.

Timing

I believe that it is a great choice to choose your baby names before you reach the hospital. Once you find out you are pregnant, it is helpful to choose your baby name before your 3rd trimester. This way you can call the baby by that name and say the name and middle of the baby out loud a lot. Being able to hear your baby referred to by the name will help see if you like the sound of the names together. We did this with both of my daughter's and we went through a few middle names and first names before we decided on the first and middle names that sounded right together. Doing this tip allowed us to immediately name our baby and fill out the proper paperwork without stress or worry that we named her the wrong thing. I have seen some newborn babies that go without names for weeks before their parents can agree on a baby name. If you do not know the sex, choose one for each before heading to the delivery room.

Sound it out

It is important to look at all aspects of the potential first and middle names before deciding. Make sure that they sound right together with your last name as well. Do this by reading the list of potential baby names out loud everyday so that you and your spouse can hear them. You should also write out the initials that your child would have with each name to make sure that they do not look like anything bad. I knew a kid once whose initials were LIP and he was teased about it a lot in school. That may not be important to you but it will be to your baby when he gets older.
