Golf Tip: Improve Your Short Game

Did you ever say to yourself, I could really improve my golf game if I could hit the ball as far as John Daly? Well, for most people that is never going to happen. But you can really improve your game if you take the opposite approach. You should work on your short game.

A good short game has a lot of advantages over being able to hit the ball far. Do not for a moment think that a long drive isn't an advantage because it is but you can do a lot with your
short game.

One of the advantages with a short game is that you can practice almost anywhere. You can practice your wedge shots out in the yard or in a local park. You can practice your putting in your living room. There is a lot of opportunities to practice.

One of the best things you can do is practice your wedge shot from 40 yards and closer. This is a crucial shot. If you can make this shot you are easily eliminating 1, 2 or 3 points off your score.

Then there is the short putt. This putt is between 1 and 6 feet. If you try to make this shot more often you will again take 2 or 3 points off your score sometimes even more.

What you need to look at is the final outcome of your actions. If you plan to play like the pros it is not going to happen but if you play to your advantages then your score will definitely improve.

Now here is the thing. If your score improves in the short game it will improve in the long game. It is not possible for it to happen any other way. Consider the fact that golf although it involves skill is also a mental game.

Have you ever noticed that when you are in your stride on the golf course you are in a better mood and more relaxed. A few good shots can make the difference and that is what we are aiming for by improving our short game.

So what are we looking for? We are looking to improve our short game. We want to be more accurate with our short wedge shots of under 40 yards. We want to improve our chances of making the short 6 foot putt. We know that these are simple skills that we can practice almost anywhere. If we do practice we will get better. And getting better in the small area will improve out score and our outlook on the game.
