Eons.com is a website produced by Jeff Taylor, former CEO of Monster.com. Its thrust is supposed to be towards the 50+ crowd. Baby boomers. There are a host of things to do, from people connections, to brain teasers, to fitness and health. Unfortunately, even with all these wild and wooly things to do, it doesn't really provide the right mix for us boomers. Here's why:

The baby boomers of today are still running fast and looking for stimulating things to do. They want to learn about how to get around on the net. Eons.com does not provide those tools. Yes, they have a message board for their groups that are homegrown. The groups are varied. There are singles over 50 groups, political groups, fitness groups, and groups about soap operas, gay and lesbian groups. You name it, they have the group. But, they don't have the chat rooms and instant messaging. Makes it tough to strike up a conversation on impulse. Sure, some of the members will leave long and interesting messages. And other members might leave a reply. Maybe some will connect that way. And certainly, there will be a member or two that will state that they met their current husband, wife or partner on Eons.com.

Eons.com feels like a website for retirees, rather than the baby boomer generation. Even though, a lot of us, (BB's) are on our way to retirement, we will still be active and excited about life. We might have a lot of aches, pains, and maladies, but we will still want to find a cure, rub some Ben-Gay on it, and jump on the nearest treadmill.

Baby boomers want to learn the jargon of the internet and how to get around in the world of the blog.

Taylor, in creating this site had the right idea. Unfortunately, he is driven more towards advertising and page views than getting it right with his audience. Instead of just offering a bunch of things to do for the boomers, he needs to provide a playground for boomers to learn everything that their kids and grandkids already know. Then they would be more willing to come, play, and stay awhile.

I agree with some of what you say. I look at Eons as an attempt to bring the Boomer Generation together into a cyber community. The forums are the best part of Eons at least for me. I have learned a lot from what is written there. But the biggest short coming I feel Eons has is that Boomers want to connect in personal ways to other Boomers. They want to if possible even meet their Boomer Soulmate . This is highly frowned upon by the people running Eons. They want all communication to be kept at a cyber level only. Yes, there are exceptions where people have met and married but I believe those instances are extremely rare. Afterall, we are not teenagers anymore who are willing to cyber chat for months with nothing ever coming of it. That is what the teens on My Space like to do. The Boomers really don't have time for that and I believe are in fact looking for personal connections. I for one when I joined Eons wanted to make at least one friend but I don't see that as ever h

That was an interesting observation on Eons. Eons does not have instant chat but they did manage to bring people together. As a boomer who knows what a view is, I am curious to see what seniorocity has to offer the boomer generation.

I have not been on eons very long but it has given me the opportunity to meet some really nice people and I have even met one of them in person and now we are great friends, it also allows me to own my own group I have three and I really enjoy the imput, when someone jerks me around I avoid them, I don't like to chat , some have dragged me to join Hi5 and my space and Yearbook and I don't like any of those, I do like eons because I only join those groups that I have an interest in , who cares who has viewed me and I am not looking for love, been there done that. nanafox

Greetings. I am a 60 year old retired, African American woman and I am having the time of my life on EONS. I am moderator for 3 groups and I own/manage 2 groups.and I belong to various music and entertainment groups. I am heavily into humor or getting a good laugh out of the day and I moderate 1 humor group called IRONY and I own a humor Group called Gallows Humor. I am also a moderator for a brain challenge group called Word Association. I have just recently revamped an African American womens beauty, health, family oriented group into a group called PHENOMENAL WOMEN.. Phenomenal Women (PW) is a group for women from all ethic groups to come and socialize, conversate, vent, make friends, post music, talk politics, get health tips, brag and anything else a group of diverse women would talk about.. It is just getting off the ground. I would be proud to have women come and take a peek. We love to hear from women who have a specialty like crafting, fishing, dressmaking, social services, f

What you need to know about the internet in general and eons in particular is that content is provided by the users, not the keepers of the castle. If you want to learn about the process, you need to open a forum so that other like-minded individuals can learn what they want to learn. Also, if you haven't realized that the internet, like everything else in this world is a business and needs to generate revenue, then you are either from another planet or have been hanging out with Mr. Marx, Mr. Lenin or Mr. Castrofor too long.

As you can see from the prior comments - Eons is for younger, no older, folks. It's good, bad, so-so, etc., etc. There is no "one size fits all" answer for anyone. That's what I love about the group process. I go to Eons, AARP, Yahoo and I'm always looking for new ones. I'll try the ones suggested here and thanks for the tips. That's why I LOVE THE INTERNET!!!

Eons has something for everyone. People in their late 40's are allowed on as well. They have groups to learn skills like HTML, photography, humor, politics, lifestyle and health, pet lovers, religious groups....anything you can think of. If it's not there, you can start one. The people are nicer than other sites I have been on. You always get a few problem people, but Eons won't put up with people like that. They also don't allow porn or inappropriate posts! It's like Facebook for babyboomers and seniors.

I went to Eons and everyone was so much younger than me. Isuppose someone needs to start something for us old folks that still want to live, but cant dance like we did when we were fifty.

As a recent member, I hope to see eons grow because I see the same people in many of the groups. Some of whom are a bit bossy and judgemental. I'm also becoming frightened of the eons fixation on Jane Seymour. She's everywhere! In every group! I'm still on the fence.

I sign up with every web site I want to despite being a fifty year old male. If people aren't interested in communicating with me because of some preconceived ideas about how I am or should be at my age it doesn't matter because some people do show an interest in me. You want to join up with a site for people around your own age go right ahead but remember there are a lot more social networking sites you can check out too. Don't settle for just one. Each person is an individual with varied thoughts on others and comparable to others who are younger or older older than themselves and you just may find you have a lot more in common with someone than you think you might. Burn the bridge of the generation gap and meet people who are younger and older than yourself. The only one holding you back is you.

Haven't gone to Eons yet to really look it over, but it sounds like Eons may be making the same kind of mistake the AARP mag does-it's for all "over-50's", but someone who's 75 may have children that are 50+ and since they're a generation apart their interests are different. So let's have sites for different age groups over 50, or at least different forums based on age if we're all to be on one site. One size does not fit all. Ray Mac..
