Get Your Kid's Hooked on Reading with Book It!
As a home schooling mom I am always looking for outside programs that will enhance my daughter's education. While visiting a forum for mom's, I discovered that the Pizza Hut Book It program is open for all teachers to use including mom teachers like me.
With Book It, children are rewarded for reading books each month with a coupon for their very own free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
First, go to the Book It website and register. You will receive your kit in the mail. The program begins October 1st and ends March 31st. Anyone from Kindergarten to Sixth grade is eligible to participate.
Second, decide on a goal. Do you want your child to read for a certain number of minutes, a certain number of pages, or a certain number of books? The child will have one month to reach the goal. Make sure the goal is reasonable, remember this program's purpose is to encourage the child to read-not discourage them because they didn't read enough. At the end of the month (if the goal was met) present your child with 1 Pizza Hut Reward Certificate.
Third, when your child presents their certificate to the employees at Pizza Hut, they will get their free pizza along with one topping of their choice. They will be congratulated and given a Book It card, clip, and one sticker for their card. The cards are pretty neat and even have moving graphics. For each returning visit they will receive another sticker for their card and their free one topping pizza of course. Pizza's are totally free and can even be taken to go. This option is perfect for sports practice nights.
Fourth, if your child meets their goal requirements for each of the six months let Pizza Hut know. They will award your child with an All-Star reader award. Don't forget to celebrate with your child. Meeting all their goals is a big accomplishment. Setting and meeting goals is a skill you want to develop in your child before they reach adulthood.
