My family loves Betty Crocker's Hamburger Helper so when I saw Betty Crocker came out with a new product (the Slow Cooker Helper) I had to buy it and give it a try.

Just like Hamburger Helper, I found the price of the Slow Cooker Helper to be reasonable. Plus, these products go on sale quite frequently making it affordable for almost everyone. The package clearly states that this dish will serve 7 people.

The Slow Cooker Helper comes with everything you need except the beef. I choose the Pot Roast box. So I bought my Pot Roast and sat down with my crock-pot. The directions say only a five-minute preparation time. I love using my crock-pot for those overly busy days. I just set it up in the morning and it is ready for my family by dinner.

To begin: I stirred the uncooked Green Giant vegetables and sauce mix, uncooked potatoes, and 4 1/2 cups of hot water until the sauce mix was completely dissolved.

Next, I placed my pot roast (1 1/2 to 2lbs thawed pot roast is best) in my crock-pot. I placed the cover on and set the heat setting to low. Just to note you can set the heat setting on high and it will be done in 1/2 a day instead. This is good if you are planning on having the meal for lunch. We sometimes do this on Sundays.

Last, when your time is up, set your crock-pot to off and remove the pot-roast. Stir the vegetables and potatoes and let them sit for five minutes. Cut your pot roast and serve with the veggies and sauce.

Now the real test: Did my family think this was of equal value as my home made pot roast and vegetables? A surprising yes (that might not say much for my cooking). The beef was tender and the veggies and sauce were just as good as home made. To test this even further, I took 2 servings over to my Grandparents house so they could heat it up for dinner later. When they ate it, they called and told me I was becoming quite the little cook. They loved it, and I am sorry Betty Crocker, I let them think I made it.

Takeaways
  • Prep time equals 5 minutes.
  • Try adding the Additions plus Toppings suggestions from the bottom of the box.
  • The Slow Cooker Helper is just as good as home made.

I too haven't been able to find the Slow Cooker Helper......I have looked at the commissary on our military installation, at about 3 different Wal-Marts, Lowes, and Smiths......I really wish I could find it....my family loved it.

OMG, I love the pot roast slow cooker and I am so not a fan of hamburger helper. However, now that my family became hooked, I cannot find it anywhere, it was in and out that quick!
