Shopping & Camping in Washington, Palermo, and Montville, Maine

Palermo, Montville, and Washington are three small towns in western midcoast Maine. They feature a campground, grocery store, several shops, and other attractions.

SHOPPING: A grocery store called "Tobey's Grocery" is located in Palermo. It is part of the Shur-Fine chain and also sells Citgo gas. Other gas stations include a Gulf station (with convenience store) in Montville, Jim's Market (Washington; also has coffee, lottery tickets, soda, and ice), and Cramer's Pit Stop (has agency liquor and convenience store items). Luce's Bargain Shop, in Washington, sells a wide variety of mostly used items. These include electronics, furniture, tools, books, small appliances, household items, and other misc. in a large three-story barn. It is attached to a hardware store which also sells new appliances. In addition, Washington has an ice cream shop, redemption center, body shop, antiques store, used book store, and Country Cupboard take-out (seasonal). There is a perennial shop ("Hill Gardens") and a recreational vehicle dealer (Jayco) in Palermo.

CAMPING: There is a campground called "Cozy Pines" in Montville on route 3 which also offers cabins for rent. According to their website, cozypinescampground.com, the campground also features a small store, shower facilities, a swimming pool, and a game room. It also indicates that special activities are offered on particular dates during the camping season. Three different types of cabins are available with different prices and features, along with recreational vehicle and tent camping sites. There is also a large summer camp located in Washington which is called "Medomak Camp". Its website (medomakcamp.com) states that a variety of activities are available both for children and adults.

OTHER: There is also a fish culture station (Palermo), fish/game association (Palermo), Mt. Oliver Masonic Lodge (Washington), Pine Acres shelter & kennel (Montville), and several churches. Schools in the area include Palermo Consolidated School and an elementary school in Washington.
