Making Your Office Comfortable During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is filled with ups and downs. If you are working full time during your pregnancy, you'll spend lots of time at the office. Making your work environment and office as comfortable as possible can help alleviate many pregnancy woes that women encounter.
1. Keep water at your desk.
One of the most important things during pregnancy is to keep hydrated. Keeping water with you at your desk is a great way to stay on top of your daily water intake (which my doctor always wanted at half of my body weight in ounces--120 pounds = 60 ounces of water a day).
2. Invest in or request an ergonomic keyboard and mouse.
Carpal tunnel may develop during pregnancy. If you sit at or use a computer regularly at work, consider discussing an ergonomic keyboard and mouse with your boss or technology team. It may help with any carpal tunnel symptoms that you are having.
3. Get up to walk around regularly.
Don't sit at your desk all day. If you spend much of your day sitting at a desk or at a computer, get up and walk around some every 30-60 minutes. It will help your circulation.
4. Don't cross your legs.
Again, crossing your legs while sitting at a desk is bad for circulation. Try to sit with your legs touching at the knees and crossing your ankles, instead.
5. Bring a pillow to work.
Having neck or back trouble while pregnant? If you suspect that your work chair is the culprit, consider bringing along a pillow to help adjust the seat to your satisfaction.
6. Wear comfortable shoes.
Do you spend time on your feet while in your office? As a teacher, I needed to make sure that I was wearing comfortable shoes in the classroom for when I was walking around. Not only was I safer, since I was less likely to trip in tennis shoes than in heels, but they just fit better when my feet were swollen.
7. Keep straight.
Sit up and stand up straight while in your office. This can help with many back and neck problems during pregnancy.
8. Don't do too much.
Take it easy at work. Is your job high stress? Do you take on too many responsibilities? One of the best ways to make your office more comfortable during pregnancy is to make it a less stressful environment.
9. Avoid strenuous activity.
