Before you plan your next vacation, you should consider a new trend which is giving home-owners all over the world brand new alternatives when it comes to spending time away from home. The new trend of house-swapping is proving to be a huge benefit to those looking for an economical way to take a vacation.

The concept of house-swapping is simple; you offer to trade the use of your house with the use of someone else's. While this might seem to be a bit hard to put your hands around, just consider the hit movie "The Holiday" where two women, played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, decide to trade houses for a holiday vacation.

Still finding the idea a bit far fetched? Well there are plenty of others that would disagree.

The concept of house-swapping has spawned the birth of a whole new line of websites geared specifically to those looking for an affordable way to take a vacation in a multitude of different locations.

For an annual membership fee, sites like homeexchange.com and homelink.org offer the opportunity to list their homes as well as browse through a vast selection of other homes available for "swapping". Once you select a home that you're interested in, you simply contact the owner of the home, set the terms and pick a date. Once both parties agree to the terms set - the swap is on and it's time to start packing!

Generally, home owners don't charge for the usage of water, electricity or other utilities since you're essentially just trading houses for a specified period of time. However, it is recommended that an itemized phone bill be prepared, just to clear up any residual personal expenses. It's also recommended that once the agreement has been made a formal contract is signed by both parties, just help resolve any disputes - should they arise.

Did You Know?
House-swapping is a growing trend for anyone looking for a little adventure!
