Even though it's over 20 years old, Dragonball continues to rack in old and new fans alike. When most think of Japanese animation, Dragonball isn't far for their minds. Over 25 games have been released in the past few years, and it's popularity hasn't calmed down at all. It's not like the story has changed at all. Thousands are enthralled by the adventures of the strange boy named Goku and his journeys that revolve around the seven mystical Dragonballs. The story, thought simplistic at times, switches effortlessly from child-like humor to blood curdling suspense, with sexual innuendos in the uncut versions. From the laughs to the fights, Dragonball Z has a little bit of everything.
The huge task is to capture that feel in a video game. Developers have tried over the years with varying success. The low point was Dragonball GT: Final Bout, released for the Playstation in 1997. The graphics were decent, but the control was horrible and the gameplay was slow. Things were quiet until Dragonball Z Budokai was released on the PS2 to the praise of gamers and critics. The games have gotten better since then to the present game.
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is the best DBZ related game on the market. Atari definitely deserves accolades. For all those that loved the first installment of the Budokai Tenkaichi series, you are in for a treat as this game is chock full of improvements. The graphics are stellar and very true to the DBZ universe. You'll see the hair blowing in the wind and tattered clothes flapping in the wind. Your character will take damaged as a battle wears on, and the environment is your playground.
