It may have been the year I received my first Barbie Dream House for Christmas or perhaps it happened during my summer visits to my Grandmothers house and being in awe of her traditional yet chic décor or it may have been a combination of the both, nevertheless it happened, I caught the design bug. I remember how excited I was to receive my first Barbie Dream House; it was pink (one of my favorite colors) and had cute little plastic furniture in it that could be moved from room to room. Although I thought it was cute, I felt that it needed just a little something extra to really make the rooms come alive. I found myself making little curtains for the windows and covers for the sofa from my mothers discarded fabrics. After I finished decorating the Dream House, I would change it from time to time to coordinate with the Seasons, by decorating with light airy fabrics for the spring and summer and going for the more rich warm fabrics for the fall and winter. This hobby grew into a fascination for me, so much so, that I began constructing houses out a shoe boxes or card board boxes and cutting out holes to make little windows and doors. It didn't stop there, when I was 18 and moved into my first apartment I had a ball shopping and decorating my home. I would change the décor around about every 6 months to try new looks and styles. I also tell my friends that when I become wealthy and earn my first billion, I'd like a home large enough where I can decorate each room to accommodate my many decorating styles. I would do French country in my kitchen; maybe a little New York loft contemporary in the living room and perhaps a mix of Tuscan meets old Hollywood glamour in my bedroom.
As time went on, I received so many accolades from my family and friends that I found myself rearranging and decorating their homes and before I knew it, it turned into a business. I know most people wait until spring to do their spring cleaning and update their décor, but I love this time of the year, so why not dress up winter with some style. Today, I am going to tell you how easy it is to change your living space without the use of paint or breaking the bank.
