In This Rotten Economy, What Are You Worth?

On What Are You Basing Your Worth?

How do you know what something is worth? Let's say you're trying to sell your second vehicle in this rotten economy. First, you do some research to find out what the Blue Book value is, deduct or add for mileage, etc. Now you have a figure in mind: $5,000. Now how much will you end up
getting for your car? How much is it worth? It is worth what someone will actually pay you for it.

So, with that in mind, I ask you: How much are you worth?

"Well," you say, "I have two degrees and years of excellent work references. So I would be worth more than someone who was just a high school graduate."

Really? So you're laying up treasures in your education and your potential for earning money?

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,

where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break

in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in

heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where

thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is,

there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)

What did God pay for you?
God paid for you with His only Son's blood. Is that really the value God places on me and on you? Am I worth the sacrifice of Jesus Christ? Why is it so hard to act like it?

Look around you at all the people for whom Christ died. Are they of great worth to you? They should be. What incredible value the sacrifice of Jesus has given them! You, your loved ones, your acquaintances and even the people you don't know are by far the most valuable things ever created - worth more than any company's stock, assets or investments, or college degrees.

So why is it that we seem to be more concerned about our retirement plans than our relatives and friends? Why do we react to an economic crisis with more urgency than to a spiritual crisis? Do we really see the value in ourselves and in other people that God sees?

I have decided to not worry about the economy. Good or bad, God is in control. I can only have one response if I want to hold on to anything of value: invest in the same things in which God has invested.

Chris, that's the absolute best thing any of us can do. My daughter taught me that by example!!

At a human level, it is amazing how people are so willing to try to drag others down. Dally I witness even my Christian friends tug and claw at others when they are not content themselves, or fearful of one thing or another. That's when I choose to "pray it away," the lies, contentiousness and difficulty of dealing with human foibles.

Your title absolutely grabbed my attention and I thought that you'd be centered on finances. Powerful spiritual message here...worth pondering.
