Vocational schools, often called "trade schools," are intended to provide the student with the kind of hands-on, real-life training that will, ideally, lead to immediate employment after the student has obtained the certificate (or degree) that indicates successful completion of the training. These vocational or trade studies may vary in length from one week to two years.

Some schools are focused on a single job or industry while others cover several industries but, in general, the trade school curriculum will stress job specifics rather than theory.

There are many trade schools in Dallas (and across the country) that teach everything from massage therapy to auto mechanics and while their instructors in each skill area may be experts, this type of institution may lack the focus required to gain respect by the employers in a single industry. The five schools overviewed here all specialize in a single vocation or industry; in other words, they are specialists training students to be specialists and they are all highly respected by employers in their industries.
