A lot of people find it difficult to maintain good health. According to some health experts, a lot of the diseases we have are due to unhealthy lifestyles which include bad eating habits, lack of activity (exercise) and poor daily event planning.

When it comes to planning for eating and foods, many have failed but on the other hand desiring things done quick, fast and on the spot. Most of people have decided to run into processed and fast foods in order to alienate the self imposed hunger. Hunger is self imposed because feeling hungry after a short period of eating means that you have very less, or not at all, fiber content in the digestive system.

Fibrous foods have been found to be not only beneficial as a mechanism of postponing hunger and reducing the diabetic chances but also to encourage the growth of probiotics. Now, all the foods that encourage the growth of probiotics are known as prebiotics, and probiotics are microorganisms that live in our digestive track to give us health benefits.

These prebiotics have a lot of advantages when it comes to slowing down the rate of energy uptake by the body. Most of the energy they have are not in ready state for absorption and therefore undergo a rigorous mechanism of digestion. During the digestion time, uptake of broken carbohydrates as simple sugars is delayed therefore the body can easily balance the body's energy requirement. This will ensure that diabetes does not develop as a result of poor diet.

Takeaways
  • Taking a lot of vegetables and fruits is good for you health
  • The benefits of vegetables and fruits are mainly due to indigestible fiber they contain
  • These foods are considered prebiotics because they aid the growth of beneficial microorganisms
