Many parents are starting to question whether or not their children are getting the quality of education they deserve. They may feel that public education is not as rigorous as it was in the past, but some also believe that the schools are teaching social values that contradict their beliefs. Some of these parents just sit and complain about teachers or school philosophies, but some of these disgruntled parents take action: They home school their children. Home schooling is an alternative to traditional public schools, where children are educated in their own home, either by their parents or by a teacher that comes to their home. Even though the choice is the parents', some educators think the parents are contradicting their intentions of giving their children a high-quality education because they believe the parents are not qualified enough to teach all subjects. The educators also believe that home schooling takes away the positive effects of socialization provided by traditional schools. However, home schooling allows the family values and religious beliefs to shape the child's view of the world. It also allows the children to focus on the positive aspects of socializing, and many parents are just as qualified to teach as teachers.
