Bill O'Reilly, 'The View' and Pornography

The women on ABC's "The View" are strong. They did not recoil in fear when Bill O'Reilly appeared with them on Wednesday's telecast.

Bill O'Reilly, of FOX News fame and radio punditry, has not always had great experiences with women. His former producer on FOX News, Andrea Mackris, sued him for sexual harassment. Andrea Mackris alleged that in order to keep

her job, she perceived that she had to accept Bill O'Reilly's sexually explicit phone calls.

They settled out of court, which does not seem to be what a proud and moral man would have done. Bill O'Reilly's career continues to flourish, to the tune of more than $10 million per year. Andrea Mackris is out of work.

Of course, the women of The View did not ask about all of this when they welcomed Bill O'Reilly. The women of The View may be catty and chatty, but as far as making a political statement, they are all too demure. Of course the women of The View engaged in some verbal engagements with Bill O'Reilly, but basically it was a laughing har-dee-har.

The women of The View did not ask why O'Reilly, who airs at 8 p.m. on FOX News during juvenile viewing time, features subjects such as pornography. Here's O'Reilly during the Family Hour with X-rated porn star Jenna Jameson:

O'Reilly: "But doesn't it hurt your feelings when people judge you and call you 'whore,' or 'slut,' things like that?"

Jameson: "No. I've never had anybody call me a 'whore' or 'slut' to my face."

O'Reilly: "To your face."

Jameson: "To my face."

O'Reilly: "You know they say it behind your back."

Another time, Jenna Jameson wasn't present, and so Bill O'Reilly commented: "Our pal, porn star Jenna Jameson, is mad at me for criticizing the Pony sneaker company for hiring her as a pitchwomen." Jenna Jameson responded with an e-mail that stated, "I hope Bill understands the difference between a porn star and a hooker. I assume he has done some research on the subject because he requested some of my videos after we finished taping my appearance. I imagine he wanted them for professional reasons." Bill O'Reilly responded, "Of course I did, Jenna. Having any other motivation would be ridiculous. Enjoy your sneakers."

I am going to have to disagree with you. As a parent, it is our job to monitor what our kids are watching. Bill O. also appears on Fox News at 11, so fans can tune in at 8 if the kids are tucked in bed, or 11 if they don't go to bed later. As with anything else, you can vote with your remote. If you are offended that the material is not suitable for children, then have them watch Noggin. It is not always the media's fault here... the buck stops here at Truman's sign said. Parents are ultimately responsible for what their kids watch (or don't).
