We all know that we should recycle for the long term sustainability and health of our planet, but often times it can seem much more like a chore than any sort of feel good thing to do. Everyone loves saving money though, so here are some great ways to save money and save the environment at the same time!Often times many grocery stores and supermarkets will give you a two or three cent credit every shopping bag that you reuse. Simply save old paper towel tubes and stuff your shopping bags in them. It makes your old shopping bags very easy to store in your car and grab when you need them.
After your fabric softener sheets have gone through the dryer, don't throw them away. After you use them in the dryer, you can use them for dusting. You can use them to dust ceiling fans, blinds, or anywhere dust collects!
Never pay for a funnel again. Keep your old plastic bottles which do not have a refund. They can be cut and used as funnels! Keep one in your car just incase you need to fill up with fluids for your vehicle.
Save some old pop caps and use them for Christmas tree ornaments. You can hot glue them together and suspended with fishing wire. You can spray paint the caps gold or silver to give them an added style.
If you happen to have geraniums in your flower garden, you can add in coffee grinds to make them grow better. Surprisingly, the acidity of the coffee grinds makes your germaniums grow like never before! You can also use your plastic coffee containers and metal coffee cans for storage to hold small accessories and toys, such as legos.
If you have a cat in the house, buy Tidy Cat once, which comes in the huge plastic container. Reuse the container and then buy the cheapest cat litter available, which usually comes in bags. Simply pour the cat litter from the cheap bag into the plastic container for better storage.
You can save your annual flowers by placing them in a closet and covering them with a brown paper bag. This way you won't have to buy new annuals next year when it comes time to plant your garden.
Don't pay for expensive book covers from the store, instead make use of paper bags which make for great book covers.
