Diet Pill Dangers
Weight loss. Almost every person I know wants to lose weight, whether it's for health or appearance reasons. And some people will go to dangerous extremes to achieve their weight loss goals.
All the commercials on the television advertising diet pills make weight loss seem so simple. Simply take their pill and your
appetite will be curbed and you'll have more energy to exercise instantaneously!
The harsh realities of diet pills are very different, however. Diet pills such as Xenadrine, Metabolife, Trim-spa, Cortisol, and Hydroxycut contain harmful chemicals that cause damage to one's body. I learned this lesson the hard way when, in an act of desperation to lose unwanted pounds, I bought Xenadrine over the counter. The only directions on the label at the time of purchase were to take up to four pills a day.
So, that's what I did. I took four pills a day for five days straight. My appetite lessened and while I felt somewhat jittery, I figured the small amount of discomfort would pay off in the end when I lost all the weight I wanted to lose. At the end of five days, however, I became seriously ill - violently shaking, horrible stomach cramps, and dizziness that prevented me from walking without assistance. I ended up visiting the emergency room where the doctors and nurses dedicated their efforts to finding out what was in the pills I had taken.
The doctor who treated me loomed over my bed in shock when she discovered the ingredients Xenadrine contained. She commented that it is "amazing what people can get away with selling over the counter".
The withdrawal I experienced in the next few days was just as bad as the poisoning I had incurred. I felt fatigued, dizzy, and shaky. If it weren't for the necessary trip I took to the emergency room, I probably would have continued taking the weight loss pills.
Diet pills are addicting. They cause immense damage to our physical and psychological well-being. They really aren't worth the risk they carry.
