McCain Volunteer Ashley Todd Confesses to Lying About Attack

Pittsburgh police now say a McCain campaign worker, Ashley Todd, has professed to creating an account that a mugger assaulted her and carved the letter "B" in her right cheek subsequent to discovering her pro McCain bumper sticker.

Todd, 20, of Texas, at first said to police that she was robbed at an automated teller machine in Bloomfield and that the perp got infuriated and started beating her after viewing a GOP sticker on her automobile.

Police looking into the so-called assault, however, started to discover several inconsistencies in her account and administered a polygraph examination.

Authorities, nevertheless, declined to issue the results of that examination.

Police did state that they got photographs from the cash machine and "the photographs were affirmed as not being Ashley Todd making the transaction."

According to police, detectives working on the case noticed numerous incompatibilities in Todd's narrative that differed from statements made in the primary police report.

Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard issued a statement today, saying: "due to the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to take a polygraph exam which she agreed to."

The investigation is carrying on as officials see what charges will be applied.
