Disappearing Object Phenomenon: The DOPler Effect

Is it for Real?

Disappearing Object Phenomenon, referred to as DOP or The DOPler Effect is a strange and sometimes bazaar event that happens in homes all across America everyday. You've probably even experienced it yourself. Perhaps you were watching TV and
when you reached for the remote it had mysteriously disappeared. Now that in itself is nothing to be concerned about. But, you enlisted the help of everyone in the family to help you search your home and it was nowhere to be found. Suddenly it reappears exactly where it should have been. How could everyone have missed it right there in plain sight?

It's the DOPler Effect.

So exactly where did your remote go and how did it reappear? No one knows for sure, but there are several theories.

The first of which is, yep, you guessed it; plain old forgetfulness.
It may seem like objects have a mind of their own and simply show up somewhere else when you aren't looking. But the truth is; you probably did forget that you moved it. When the object is finally located, you can often think back to prior to losing it and recall leaving the room or answering the phone, probably with the item in hand. And there it is right where you stopped to pet the cat or get a drink of water.

This really isn't DOP at all, at least not as far as the paranormal kind goes.

But that wasn't the case with the disappearing remote.

Okay. So we ruled out that you didn't absentmindedly take the remote to another room and forget it. Now what?

Well, the second most common reason for objects going missing and reappearing in the same location, is; someone else moved it and when they saw you upset and searching they didn't want to own up to it. They quietly sneaked it back in its proper place when you weren't looking. Admittedly, if you have kids this is a plausible explanation.

But everyone was accounted for and you are absolutely sure no one moved the remote when you weren't looking.

Hm. Now that's getting interesting.

  • Many psychics and paranormal researchers claim that the object slips into another dimension.

Dino... I'd love to hear about losing an entire building.

I love it. Keep the stories coming everyone.

But what if you, as in my case, loose an entire building?? And, when things return, they look TOTALLY different. There are a lot more huge examples I have experienced. But everything leads me to believe that it isn't your REMOTE that shifted, but YOU. It is probably US that are shifting. If anyone has any more info on this phenomena, or can tell me where to find it, please let me know.

hi, something weird has happened. I was looking for a splinter cell cd a few days ago, which the last time I saw was on top of my computer. I checked the whole area by my computer, and on top of the computer like 50 times, it had completely dissapeared, and shouldn't have left the area it was in. Then today, I sit down at my computer and its sitting on top of the computer just as I had left it. I can't believe that I just didn't see it, cause I checked all around the area where it was last, so I can't explain it. Also, when I was sitting on computer, I had my foot pressed against cupboard door, and I felt a small thud against my foot like someone was knocked the back of the cupboard door. And last night, I watched this ghost video on you tube and I was freaked out, then this morning I get the cd back. Very strange.

Hi Mrs. Richford. I've been reading some of your work, and am very interested in your parinormal articles. I too have experienced a lot of parinormal activity, but the strangest things is not when objects disappear but when they just appear. A few years ago, I got really busy taking care of sick relatives. I was exhausted, and my house got really messy. I could not understand how anything could get so messy so fast really. When I finally had time to clean it up. I found things that did not belong to me. Just trash mostly. I found wrappers from food products I do not buy, and my kids and husband said they didn't buy it either. Then the clencher. I found photos of people. They were modern photos, of people none of us know. Some of them had dates an names written on the back, but none of us had ever seen or heard of these people. Now my home was built in 1920 by my Grandfather, and I have lived here 20 years. No one besides my family had lived in the house, ever. WE did not have

Very briefly, items have been mysteriously appearing and disappearing in our house for about 8 months. Strangely, neither of us has yet felt particularly threatened and have actually found the whole thing quite fun. However, a few months ago, a CD case of mine that had disappeared about 7 months previously, suddenly reappeared again in an obscure part of the house. Only one of 5 original CD's was inside. I checked that it was ok and put it back into the case and then put the case on the locker next to our bed. Next morning, the case was still there but the CD had been replaced with a blank, taken from another shelf in the same room. This marked the start of a whole series of strange happenings and a ratchetting up of the frequency of these incidents. We've had pictures being moved around in the bedroom. We don't physically see them move but when we enter the bedroom they have been moved from their original positions and have been placed on different walls. We had another large picture

(continued) ...which was something he would have done when he was alive. He was always asking if he could have the last yogurt in the fridge or sneaking some if no one was looking. I don't mind that he grabbed the dessert. I just wish he would have left the bowl, which I was planning on washing and giving back to my friend.

I brought home a bowl of poppyseed muffin covered with kiwi yogurt and whipped cream (with chocolate bar shavings on top) from a friend's house and placed it in the fridge. Then I took a shower and left for a little while. My boyfriend was at work and not due home for another four hours and the only living things in my house were our animals, two dogs and three cats. None of them know how to open the fridge door. And if they could everything would have been eaten because the black lab will eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. That was what I considered when I looked for the dessert after not finding it in the fridge; that maybe I left it out on the counter and dog jumped up and got it. But, even then, at least the bowl would have been left, right? I have looked high and low for that bowl of dessert and it's utterly gone. My brother passed away on December 12 and my friend asked me if he liked yogurt and if it might be something he would have done...ate the yogurt and hidden the bowl...which wa

Glad to see I'm not the only one puzzled by disappearing objects.

I love the article. I believe the DOPler effect is very real, I also share the belief that fairies are borrowing my items, they do love shiny objects. I also agree that if I was a ghost I would most definately get a kick out of watching everyone run around hysterically searching for items. Heck I do it to my husband and kids already. People are gonna hate me when I'm dead :) But I will be having a blast! Thanks for the great read.
