My wife and I dined at Bob Evans with our one year old son recently on a Saturday night during the holiday season after spending the day shopping and not wanting to wait for the "hour plus wait times" at many other local restaurants. She is a big fan of breakfast food for dinner so she was happy with the idea, I'm not that big a fan of that idea but they have a large enough menu to satisfy any tastes.

When we arrived the restaurant was only about 1/2 full, which was nice after dealing with crowds all day. The hostess seated my wife, and myself and brought a high chair for our son. He was happy with his crayons and coloring page, even though he was more interested in eating the crayons than coloring with them.

Our waitress came and started to take our drink order, we could tell she was very nervous and had a feeling she was probably a trainee. Another waitress was hovering at the table behind us when they didn't seem to need any help so that sort of confirmed our guess. After taking our drink orders she left and returned with them shortly along with the other waitress who started taking our order to help our waitress and said she was training her.

My wife ordered a western omelet and I ordered one of their new items, the Sausage and Peppers Pasta. We ordered maccaroni and cheese for our son. The waitress brought out my salad and the mac and cheese for our son which was a nice touch to bring it early. He enjoyed eating that but had no interest in the pieces off my salad I gave him (hey, I don't blame him, as well know salad isn't as exciting as mac and cheese lol).

Soon after our entrees came. My wife gets the western omelet quite often and said it was good as usual, not overdone or underdone like sometimes can happen with omelets. The sauce on my pasta wasn't hot but wasn't cold either. I would call it on the upper edge of warm. It wasn't worth sending back. The pasta entree was actually quite large, and I would end up taking half of it home. It had a large amount of Bob Evans tasty sausage and some large onion and pepper pieces that seemed fresh. Overall it was pretty good for a new entree and a pasta one at a restaurant that usually doesn't carry many pasta entrees.

Takeaways
  • Bob Evans is a good comfort food restaurant
  • Their appetizers aren't anything special, we usually don't order those
  • This is a restaurant that quite often isn't as busy as other local ones, I guess people forget about it for dinner
Did You Know?
Bob Evans at dinner time is usually best if you order a breakfast item or sandwich, their dinner entrees are just average in general.

I used to work at Bob Evans. If you saw whats back in the kitchen you won't find your food too amazing.
