Sky Hunters
Known as sky hunters
To the ancient ones
They follow the path of the bow
Traced it in the sky
Then pierced its heart
With the brightest of stars
A geographic representation
Of a home not forgotten
Not only were beasts of burden hunted
But also men for strength of labor
Rising at dawn to mine and build
The precious metal that glistens as the sun
But not all men were content
To bow their heads in fear
In the passing years they rose
And stood strong
Many perished but
The tyranny was finally gone
The great hunters
Mounted their winged horses
Some fleeing to the starry bow
Others retreating to the depths of the earth
Gone but not forgotten
Forgotten but not gone
Their monuments stood weathered by time
Memories of them became bedtime stories
Recorded history turned into the dust of myth
Hidden, the great hunters remained
Devising new ways to get their work done
Changing with the generations
They wear suits, speak eloquently
No longer are beasts of burden being
Driven through sand dunes with whips
But through law and documents, smiles and promises
They wear a mask of greatness
Strip it off in secret places
Stand beneath a sky of deception
Hands stained with the blood of millenia
And praise the ignorance of primitive minds
But the day will come
When they will tremble in fear
They will plot no more
Nor will the hunger for power
Or devise evil against those
They have sworn to guide
For one greater than they
Will descend from the sky
He will shine brighter
Than the brightest star
Filled with compassion
And a heart of benevolence
They will be cast from the earth
Their hearts of evil exposed
And a new reign will begin
To the ancient ones
They follow the path of the bow
Traced it in the sky
Then pierced its heart
With the brightest of stars
