Blogging is a great way to practice writing. It is also a good way to put your thoughts and idea out there and see what others are thinking. Many want to put forth many different things in their blogs. But in order for it to be taken seriously, your blog should have a clear purpose in mind. Many start out their blog with enthusiasm. They are so excited that they think, "I'll just post loads of different ideas and see what happens. This will only work for a while.
Sooner or later you are going to have to make your blog about something. If not then, you will lose interest and so will others. No one will respond to it and eventually it will get abandoned. With a clear idea in mind, people with similar interests will be attracted to your blog and you will get a much better response.
When you're writing anything, one thing you always need to keep in mind is your audience. This is true of newspaper articles, term papers and believe it or not, blogs as well. When you know your target audience, your blog becomes more personal. You can start writing almost as if your writing to someone you know. Readers will recognize this as they read. Ultimately, this will add that extra personal touch to your blog. If your blogging for business purposes, it is essential that you have a clear purpose in mind. Many products can appeal to a wide variety of people. If you have no purpose, people will not have faith in your blog or your product. This could result in lost sales and revenue.
Finally, a purpose does not mean restrict your blog. You can overlap ideas from time to time. You can also introduce related topics. Just beware of going off on to many tangents. This will make your blog look disorganized and without purpose. This will confuse your followers and they may give up on you. Try to stay within some parameters which is possible without being too restrictive.
Everything in life needs a purpose and this applies to blogging. With clear defined goals and purposes, you blog will look organized and people will trust it. They will come to it knowing they will leave having learned something.
